The Spirit, Mind and Body
“The spirit is life
The mind is the builder
The physical is the result”
This quote by Edgar Cayce reflects a holistic view of human existence and the process of creation and manifestation. It suggests that spirit, or life force, is the source and essence of life itself. Cayce believed that spirit is eternal and comes from a divine source. It's the life force that animates us; without it, there would be no consciousness or being. In this framework, spirit is our true nature and the root of all that exists. You are a spiritual being having a human experience. In daily life, connecting to spirit means living with purpose rather than drifting; acting from compassion and love, not just habit; seeking alignment with your higher values; feeling meaning even in struggle.
The mind acts as an intermediary between spirit and the physical world. It shapes reality through thought, belief, intention, and imagination. Whatever we consistently think about or dwell on becomes the blueprint for what we experience. The mind can construct our reality, both inwardly and outwardly.
This echoes ideas found in metaphysics and modern psychology: that our beliefs and mental patterns influence our emotions, behaviours, and ultimately, our outcomes.
The physical world, including our health, environment, and life circumstances, is the outcome of spiritual energy filtered through the mind. In other words, our physical reality reflects the state of our mind and spirit. If the spirit is aligned and the mind is constructive, the physical result will be more harmonious.
So change begins on the inside. If you want to change your life, you must start by aligning your spirit (with truth, love, purpose) and training your mind (with focus, clarity, and positive thought). Only then will your physical reality follow suit.
For example, let’s say you want to improve your health. You recognise that deep down, you are more than just a body. You feel a desire to live fully, with purpose and connection. Your spiritual impulse might be to express more vitality, take care of yourself, or fulfill a deeper calling. You might also begin to reconnect with something greater, God, the universe, or simply your higher self.
You start changing how you think. Instead of believing "I'm just unhealthy" or "I'll never get better," you adopt thoughts like:
“I can rebuild my health.”
“My body responds to my thoughts and care.”
“Every day, I’m getting stronger.”
You visualise yourself feeling energetic and at peace. You learn about health, make a plan, and focus your mental energy on positive, empowering beliefs. Your mind begins to “build” a new reality based on these aligned, clear thoughts.
Over time, the body responds. You eat better, sleep more, reduce stress, exercise gently. These choices aren’t just physical, they’re the result of spiritual intention and mental focus.
Eventually, you feel more energy, have fewer symptoms, and experience a shift in your physical condition.
This principle can apply to relationships, career, creativity, even world events. Cayce taught that our inner state isn’t separate from our outer life—it’s the cause of it. This simple connection between spirit, mind and body goes a long way to managing many of the illnesses in our lives such as anxiety, depression and stress.
